QABF Scorer

f you’re still tallying QABF subscale scores by hand — or re-checking your maths before writing up an FBA — this tool is for you.

The QABF Scorer is a purpose-built Excel workbook that automates the scoring process for the Questions About Behavioural Function scale (Matson & Vollmer, 1995). You enter the raw item ratings, and it does the rest: subscale totals, a ranked function summary, and a clean bar chart ready to paste into your report.

What’s included:

  • Input sheet for all 25 QABF items
  • Automatic calculation of all 5 subscale scores (Attention, Escape, Non-Social, Physical, Tangible)
  • Ranked function summary — highest-scoring function shown first
  • Bar chart output, formatted for direct use in reports
  • Scoring key and instructions tab

Who it’s for:
BSPs and allied health clinicians conducting functional behaviour assessments under the NDIS. Particularly useful when completing multiple assessments across a caseload — each sheet takes under 5 minutes to complete.

Format: Microsoft Excel (.xlsx) — works with Excel 2016 or later, and Excel for Mac. Not compatible with Google Sheets (formula dependencies).

Free with email sign-up. You’ll receive a download link immediately.

The QABF is a validated indirect assessment tool. This scorer automates calculation only — clinical interpretation remains the responsibility of the practitioner.
